getting started

how do i start this process?

  • Please go to our Booking page to schedule an initial consultation.

  • If from the initial consultation, outpatient therapy at Ride The Wave seems like it might be a good fit for you, you will schedule a clinical assessment with a therapist.

  • An administrator at RtW will send you an email from a secure patient portal with all the information and documentation you will need for your clinical assessment.

  • In your clinical assessment with a therapist, you and your assessor will discuss your treatment history, current needs and treatment goals, as well as determine if group therapy is indicated to help you reach your goals.

  • After your assessment, if you are recommended for services at Ride The Wave Recovery, there are a number of different next steps that may occur. If you are recommended for individual therapy, you will be scheduled to meet with your individual therapist for the first session with them.

  • If you are recommended for group therapy, you will be scheduled to meet with the group therapist for at least two individual sessions - at a significantly reduced rate as compared to our regular individual session fees - prior to joining a group, so that you and the group therapist can get to know each other better, delve deeper into the clinical issues that are going to be addressed in a group, go over group guidelines, the structure and methodology of the group or groups you are going to join, and for you to get a feel for the group therapist before you make a commitment to starting the group.

good faith estimate notice

You have the right to ask for and receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under California law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Fees for Service (Updated 12/22)

Sliding Scale & Free Gender Affirming Letters:

As a matter of RtW Mission, we offer a committed number of individual and group spots for sliding scale clients.

All of Kat Zwick’s groups have at least 2 sliding scale spots available and Kat retains at least 2 sliding scale/low fee spots on their caseload for trans/gender expansive clients in need. Please feel free to inquire about sliding scale to see if we have availability.

We never ask clients to “prove” their income in order to “qualify” for sliding scale spots. Kat has structured RtW’s business model such that sliding scale spots are built in to the overall business plan, and each respective sliding scale client is invited to pay what is sustainable for themself, according to their own self-determination.

Kat is also committed to providing free gender affirming letters for adult clients seeking medical intervention, where letters are required by a doctor or insurance company. Kat is trained in collaborative assessments and letter writing under SOC 8. Kat has also trained and supervised other clinicians in providing free collaborative assessments and letters. As of SOC 8, Kat does not specialize in adolescent gender-affirming care so that is why Kat provides letters for adults at this time.

When Kat’s schedule allows it, they follow the GALAP’s mission to provide at least 1 free collaborative evaluation and letter monthly. When their schedule does not allow this, they provide a free evaluation as often as they can and otherwise refer trans/gender expansive individual in need of this to GALAP providers so that trans/gender expansive individuals will be provided free evaluations and letters.

Full Fee Individual, Family & Couples Services

Clinical Assessments (90791): $225

50-min session (90834): $206 - $300

60 min session (90837): $206 - $300

75 min sessions (still 90837 but extended time): $250 - $350

30-min sessions (90832): $128.75 - $154.50

Kat offers a “full fee range” for full fee 30-75 min services, due to serving clients in multiple states, multiple cities and of different economic access realities. Any fee within the range listed for those services is considered full fee. Clients let Kat know what is accessible and sustainable for them within that range and we then set the fee for the particular session code.

Group Therapy Services:

Group therapy prices range from $35-$80 per person per group and vary depending on the type and length of the group (for example, some groups require the provision of materials by RtW and significant preparation on the part of the clinician and that is factored in to the cost of the group). The full fee for a group is set by RtW.

NOTE: There is often a discount in fees for those who pay via a cash app such as Venmo or Zelle.

Health Insurance Information:

We are not in-network with any insurance provider.

Clients pay for services with Ride The Wave Recovery upfront. Our Electronic Health Record autogenerates Superbills to clients monthly.

As a matter of policy, we do not typically interact with insurance companies; our relationship is with our clients, not with insurance companies. We may sometimes provide requested information on our letterhead to the client.
