DBT Client Mentorship Now Available
Clients who have completed at least one round of the DBT Mindfulness & Group Series who are interested in providing DBT mentorship to new DBT group clients may inquire about the possibility of becoming a DBT Client Mentor. Client mentorship is considered an opportunity to be of service to others in recovery while continuing to deepen your own DBT skills use. Service and community can be strong motivating factors for staying connected to one’s recovery, and we support these concepts at RtW.
A Client Mentor participates in the DBT group on Skills night (Tuesday evenings) and provides their experience, strength and hope to incoming DBT group members.
A Client Mentor may offer examples of how they apply a particular DBT skill in their own life or how they moved through a barrier or hurdle in their own DBT work. A Client Mentor does not pay to participate in the DBT group series. It is a volunteer mentorship position. A Client Mentor will never be responsible to run or facilitate a DBT group.
All Client Mentorships are considered in the context of a Client’s overall treatment plan, goals, and progress in their own recovery. As the DBT group series is offered over and over again, there are many opportunities to engage as a Client Mentor when the time is right.
Clients who are interested in this role are encouraged to talk about this idea with their individual and/or group therapist(s) and also may contact Kat Zwick about this possibility at kat@ridethewaverecovery.com
